"Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." The human form has interested artists for many ages, and I am no exception. As embodied beings—the crown of all creation—our bodies are both sacred vessels and yet a temporary dwelling. Even as we bear the marks of time, illness, labor, life and loss lived in its bones, the body is dignified and beautiful. No matter how we may choose to push against it, the body quietly reminds us of our mortality. We live with the knowledge of our eventual return to dust. Watercolor, like the body, is fluid, fleeting, and delicate. But within this fragile state is a deep longing—for restoration, for a better body, and better life, to come. These figures, painted from life, stand in that tension: reverent, vulnerable, broken, and waiting."
