Artist Release | 'Growing Sideways' by Shana Wanco

Shana Wanco is serving up a dose of wonder and curiosity, ideal for nature lovers with today's fun release!

This charming collection of mushrooms captures this species' beauty with a whimsical touch. Each piece is meticulously detailed, showcasing various mushroom species in vibrant hues of reds, blues and greens. These are such a wonderful way to add a pop of color and a bit of woodland magic to any space!

The artist states, “I’ve always been fascinated by mushrooms & try to spot them when we travel to the NC mountains every June & October. They’re so magical & bring me lots of joy! Painting them delicately, but in a folk art style feels very natural to me. Mushrooms challenge me to use different line textures, painting styles & discover new organic shapes. I probably will never know all the mushroom types & names because I don’t have enough brain space to hold that information, but it’s still fun to discover new ones in the wild & wonder what they’re called. Gnomes go hand-in-hand with mushrooms in my opinion, & painting these little guys in colorful, saturated gouache makes me believe that a gnome or two is living amongst the shrooms. I hope the joy & magic that I felt painting the mushrooms comes through & can bring some imagination to your space."
