The artist states, “This body of work was created from a place of pure curiosity and play in my studio during the cold days of winter. With spring in mind, I experimented with soft pastels and bright hues—all balanced with muted moody tones. The expressive, abstract backgrounds are detailed and richly textured with layers of oil pastels, acrylics and gouache, with the botanical garden paths mounted on top. Each day before getting started in the studio, I would read a poem from an old book that belonged to my grandmother. This served as an extra dose of inspiration to my daily practice. I hope these paintings evoke feelings of a perfect spring day—light, airy, full of color and teeming with new life.”
