Artist Statement: “This series is an illustration of the ideas of counterweights: anything that helps balance heaviness with hope. As author Shannon Martin shares, 'Each day brings weights and counterweights. Being fully alive means carrying both.' This collection is about this concept. Pieces of this collection depict opposite ends of the balance: things that burden and thigns that lift. Signature stacked shapes, bold palettes, sand bending flowers reflect Katie's classic style of balancing color blocks with movement.
