Stained Glass measuring 4” L x 5” W x 2.75” H

The origami paper crane symbolizes peace, hope, healing, and strength. It also represents good fortune, longevity, and loyalty. In Japanese culture, the crane is known as the "bird of happiness". The tradition of folding 1,000 origami cranes is called senbazuru. It's believed that folding this many cranes will grant the folder a wish. The origami crane is a symbol of peace and hope because of the story of Sadako Sasaki, a Japanese girl who folded cranes after being exposed to radiation from the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. I love this sentiment and wanted to create my own version. Using transparent stained glass adds the element of light I like to call “painting with light”. The organic effect of light changes throughout the day, effecting the shade of color and the reflections it makes throughout the room.

Each piece is meticulously handmade using the traditional Tiffany copper foil method. This method is a technique in stained glass where thin copper foil is used to join pieces of glass, instead of the traditional lead came method. This method involves wrapping the edges of glass pieces with copper foil and then soldering them together. This technique allows for more intricate and delicate designs than lead came.

Please note: These pieces are for pre-orders only and will take two weeks to arrive to customers.  They will NOT be available at Cottage Grove.
