Practicing figurative art has been hugely instrumental in teaching me anatomy, light and form. However, in addition to encouraging these technical skills, it has also allowed for endless creativity, ranging from realistic renderings to abstract forms. I had such fun with this series!

I started by painting several quick studies during a live session with a model. I then took these paintings and began the simplification - trying to decide how much I could remove while still conveying the lovely essence of the human form. The finished result is these streamlined figures composed of continuous lines.

I chose a colorful and cheerful palette to create a sense of playfulness but I also hope that the clean lines and lack of clutter promote a feeling of serenity in the viewer.
