Marquin Campbell

18 x 24 inches Acrylic on paper

"I recently returned to Savannah, Georgia which is where I grew up. I was overcome with the beauty of the southern costal landscape: the colors, the textures, and the sunshine coalesced to overwhelm all the senses with their beauty. Life is curious in that sometimes it takes getting away from scenes that are taken for granted so that one can view them with fresh eyes to truly appreciate and articulate just how dazzling they are. This series of works all measuring 18 x 24 inches is inspired by the dance of salt water, wind, and abounding nature on a gorgeous blue sky day in the lowcountry. Pat Conroy, a personal favorite literary hero, puts it so well: "You can be moved profoundly by other vistas, by other oceans, by soaring mountain ranges, but you can never be seduced. You can even forsake the lowcountry, renounce it for other climates, but you can never completely escape the sensuous, semitropical pull of [the southern coast] and her marshes.”
