Audrey Gore
16 x 20 Watercolor, acrylic, oil pastel and charcoal on French cream paper.
"I created this collection to change how we see something as familiar as a floral arrangement—to give it new meaning. Pulling inspiration from Matisse’s charcoal drawings, I kept the focus on the vases’ forms and thoughtfully used watercolors, which are fluid and unexpected, to contradict the sharp and intentional charcoal lines. The splashes about the paper are a way of displacing the element of water. The ability to look through the vases displays the beauty of the stems which typically go unnoticed. There is a close relationship between flowers and vases—much like human relationships, the two complement each other in many ways."
